Exploring Louvre, Abu Dhabi

At the heart of Saadiyat Island lies Abu Dhabi’s most exciting addition to its cultural landscape, the Louvre, Abu Dhabi. Opened in November 2017 as a joint development by the United Arab Emirates and France, the Museum is an expression of the shared human experience. Designed by world-renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, the Museum’s arresting design alone has captured the attention of art and design aficionados worldwide. Representing a “museum city in the sea,” the museum is comprised of dozens of buildings linked by waterfront promenades and the Museum’s most striking feature, the dome. The 180-metre-wide, perforated dome appears to float above the complex with filtered sunlight creating a ‘rain of light’ effect within the Museum’s galleries.
